What Is Paint Correction?
Paint correction is the process of mechanically polishing automotive paint to remove or reduce surface imperfections and restore clarity and gloss.
Unlike a standard wash or wax, paint correction addresses defects within the paint's surface, including swirl marks, oxidation, light scratches, water spots, and haze.
The amount of correction possible depends on the depth of the defect, the condition and thickness of the clear coat, the hardness of the paint, and the polishing system used. Our goal is not simply to remove as much paint as possible, but to achieve the best improvement while preserving the vehicle's finish.
Our Paint Correction Process
01 — Paint Inspection
We inspect the vehicle's paint under proper lighting to identify swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etching, and other defects. We also consider the vehicle's age, paint condition, previous polishing, and the desired result.
02 — Thorough Decontamination
Before polishing, the paint needs to be properly cleaned and decontaminated. Contamination left on the surface can interfere with polishing and potentially cause additional marring.
03 — Test Spot
Before correcting the entire vehicle, we test a small section to determine which combination of pad, compound, polish, machine, and technique provides the appropriate balance between correction and paint preservation.
04 — Machine Polishing
We use dual-action machine polishers with professional polishing pads and compounds to progressively refine the paint. The combination used depends on the vehicle's paint system and the defects present.
05 — Refinement
After heavier correction, the paint may require a finishing polish to maximize clarity, gloss, and reflectivity.
06 — Final Inspection
The vehicle is inspected under multiple lighting conditions to evaluate the final finish and identify remaining defects.
07 — Protection
Once the paint has been corrected, we can apply a paint sealant, wax, or other protective product to help maintain the finish.
